Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls Sheep Sales, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 1,380 head Sept. 17, compared to 1,427 head last week and 1,339 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold steady to firm. Due to light receipts last week trend on slaughter ewes not applicable, however, a lower undertone noted. Feeder lambs too few to test. Receipts about 54% slaughter lambs, 21% slaughter ewes, 5% feeder lambs and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 133 to 145 lbs., 104.25 to 105.50 (105.04). Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 131 to 144 lbs., 102.00 to 105.00 (102.83); 150 to 158 lbs., 104.00. Wooled, Choice 2 to 3, 114 to 123 lbs., 101.50 to 102.75 (102.37).

Slaughter ewes: Good and Choice 2 to 4, 175 to 185 lbs., 29.00 to 30.50 (29.21). Good 2 to 4, 140 to 141 lbs., 22.00 to 28.00 (23.12); 13 head, 164 to 177 lbs., 24.00 to 25.00 (24.60); 206 to 240 lbs., 23.00 to 26.00 (25.04). Cull and Utility 1 to 2, 131 to 135 lbs., 18.00 to 20.00 (18.47). Cull 1, 110 to 118 lbs., 13.00.

Feeder lambs: Medium and Large 1 to 2, 5 head, 78 lbs., 110.00; 80 to 85 lbs., 100.00 to 111.00 (105.92); 23 head, 93 lbs., 100.00.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 11 head, 47 lbs., 110.00; 50 to 56 lbs., 109.00; 9 head, 63 lbs., 108.00.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1, 107 to 128 lbs., 51.00 to 54.50 (53.50).
