Riddle me this

What can be green on the outside, green on the inside and full of green?

A 2008 Ford Mustang, of course.

A green Ford Mustang may recall images gone by of Steve McQueen in his Highland Green 1968 Mustang GT 390 Fastback in the movie, Bullitt.

But this is no '60s-era muscle car. The 2008 is the new version of "green."

Soy-based polyurethane foam seating will be used in the new model of the sports car. The announcement by the Ford Company comes after seven years of research and a three-year partnership with the United Soybean Board. Ford, who partners with Lear Corporation for seating and interior trim products, is the first automaker to use a soy-based seating product.

It is a huge win for USB and soybean farmers. Surpassing Ford's standards of durability and performance is crucial to continued research into replacing petroleum products with soy.

Combine the soy-based seating with a tank of gasoline blended with ethanol and a custom green paint job and you've got a green Mustang, through and through.

But the "green" movement of the Ford Mustang is nothing new for the Ford Company. The Ford Model T once contained 60 pounds of soybeans in its paint and molded plastic parts, according to USB.

Not too long ago American farmers were simply raising crops that fed the world. A significant job in and of itself. But, thanks to the farmer investment in their checkoff, they've found new uses for the crops they already grow, thereby increasing demand. It is an investment in their own future that will only continue to reap benefits.

The only downfall to the 2008 Ford Mustang? It still costs you some green to drive one.
