Newell sheep sales report

St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 3,444 head Sept. 13, compared to 2,789 head last week and 14,034 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Sheep trends were not applicable due to the sale not recently covered, however a fully steady undertone was noted. Offerings consisted of a few large strings plus many part loads and smaller packages of quality feeder lambs. Receipts included about 86% feeder lambs, 13% slaughter ewes with the balance miscellaneous sheep and goats.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice 2 to 3, 7 head, 122 lbs., 90.50 black face.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 101 head, 163 lbs., 26.75. Good 2 to 4, 27 head, 129 lbs., 29.00 hair sheep. Good 3 to 4, 19 head, 195 lbs., 20.50. Utility 1 to 2, 175 head, 147 lbs., 23.25. Cull and Utility 1 to 2, 127 head, 133 lbs., 20.25.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 15 head, 48 lbs., 113.50; 51 to 56 lbs., 112.00 to 118.50 (113.87); 67 to 68 lbs., 116.00 to 116.50 (116.15); 71 to 79 lbs., 112.00 to 113.50 (112.94); 80 to 89 lbs., 104.50 to 109.00 (107.23); 90 to 99 lbs., 101.75 to 107.25 (104.57); 100 to 106 lbs., 99.75 to 101.25 (100.52); 13 head, 102 lbs., 99.25 black face; 17 head, 115 lbs., 95.50 black face; 30 head, 130 lbs., 98.25 fleshy. Medium and large frame 2, 30 head, 52 lbs., 110.50. Small and medium frame 1 to 2, 18 head, 71 lbs., 103.00. Small frame 2, 35 head, 58 lbs., 86.00; 5 head, 65 lbs., 83.50 hair sheep. Medium frame 1 to 2, 36 head, 81 lbs., 104.50.

Slaughter bucks: 16 head, 234 lbs., 29.00 fleshy; 14 head, 186 lbs., 16.50 thin.
