Joplin regional cattle sales
The Joplin Regional Stockyard Auction, Joplin, Mo., reported receipts of 6,341 head Sept. 17, compared to 6,776 head last week and 7,801 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves were $1 to $3 lower, yearlings were steady. Demand and supply were moderate. As typical for this time of the year, fleshy, un-worked calves make up most of the lower market. Corn futures were $3.50 or higher, feeder cattle futures closed down $1.15. The feeder supply included 48% steers, 38% heifers, 14% bulls, with 45% over 600 pounds.
