Amarillo livestock auction reportThe Amarillo Livestock auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,456 head Sept. 18, compared to 858 head last week and 1,607 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds were weak to $2 lower and under 600 pounds were $3 to $7 lower. This first significant test of new crop calves showed fleshy bawling calves traded under the balance of the calves. Yearling heifers in light to medium flesh condition weighing 600- to 700-pounds showed the least decline and traded almost steady. Slaughter cows were steady on light receipts and bulls were untested. The bulk of the limited supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400- to 750-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were moderate at best. Feeder cattle accounted for 97% and slaughter cows and bulls 3% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up 40% of the run heifers 60%, steers and heifer over 600 pounds totaled 63%.
