Proposed biodiesel plantPROPOSED BIODIESEL PLANT--It's taken several years of planning, but St. John, Kan., community members have finally entered the equity drive phase of their development of a 30-million-gallon biodiesel plant. Helping kick off the festivities is Rep. Jerry Moran, R-KS, (center) who says the proposed BioEnergy of Central Kansas, LLC, is a great example of local leaders taking charge of the futures of their rural economies. "The success of this facility will help determine that there will be kids in schools and shoppers in stores in St. John," he says. Also joining Congressman Moran were local leaders, from left, Steve Freach, Max Liby, Leon Dunn, Charles Atkinson, Rep. Moran, Kent Romine, St. John Mayor Jill Stimatze, and Stafford County Commissioner Clayton Grimmett. When the plant is finished, the developers are hoping to see about 30 new jobs and a potential of an $8.61 million boost to the local economy in Stafford County. (Journal photo by Jennifer M.
