Wyobraska cattle sales report

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Sept. 8, totaled 21,825 head, compared to 8,275 head last week, and 22,300 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to two weeks ago, feeder cattle sold $2 to $3 higher at Wyoming auctions this week. Demand was good. Direct trading moderately active this week. Comparable sales were mostly steady. Demand was moderate to good. Buyer inquiry was moderate to good. Offerings were moderate. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 72% of the supply, heifers 28% with 79% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 11,300 head of the total receipts.
