Springfield livestock sales

The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 2,246 head Sept. 12, compared to 1,981 head last week and 2,627 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers and heifers under 700 pounds were steady to $2 lower, except 600-pound heifers were $3 to $4 lower, and those over 700 pounds and Holsteins at all weights were steady. Demand and supply were moderate. The offering ran the full spectrum from fleshy to thin calves and yearlings, with most frame and quality grades represented. As consistent with the last several weeks a good supply of bull calves in the mix. Feeder cattle futures closed sharply lower and corn futures rallied over fifteen cents higher. The feeder supply included 27% steers, 14% Holsteins, 36% heifers, 23% bulls, with 33% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 137.00 to 154.00; 445 to 500 lbs., 128.00 to 137.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 117.00 to 123.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 116.00 to 121.50; 750 to 800 lbs., 115.50 to 119.00; package 843 lbs., 112.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350 to 400 lbs., 126.00 to 131.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 119.00 to 133.00, thin 133.00 to 137.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 115.00 to 124.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 111.00 to 119.50, calves 110.00 to 116.50; 700 to 760 lbs., 108.50 to 113.50.

Holsteins: Large frame 3, 300 to 400 lbs., 107.00 to 111.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 92.00 to 110.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 85.00 to 90.75; 600 to 700 lbs., 88.00 to 92.50; 700 to 755 lbs., 85.00 to 92.00; 800 to 860 lbs., 87.00 to 90.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 345 to 400 lbs., 118.00 to 125.50; 400 to 500 lbs., 114.00 to 124.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 111.00 to 118.00; 600 to 665 lbs., 108.00 to 112.00; 735 to 740 lbs., 105.00 to 108.50; package 809 lbs., 106.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 290 lbs., 124.00; 300 to 400 lbs., 112.00 to 122.00, package thin 122.50; 400 to 500 lbs., 108.00 to 116.00, lot thin 123.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 105.00 to 113.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 100.00 to 109.00, package thin 113.00; 700 to 765 lbs., 100.00 to 107.50.
