Sioux Falls sheep sales report
The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 1,427 head Sept. 10, compared to 599 head last week and 1,220 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold steady, while showing the effects of recent rain. Slaughter ewes to few to test and those were sold to a special order bidder. Trend on feeder lambs not applicable due to light receipts last sale, however a steady to higher undertone was noted. Receipts included about 77% slaughter lambs, 13% feeder lambs, 6% slaughter ewes and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep. Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 92 head, 135 lbs., 104.00 to 104.50 (104.18). Shorn Choice 2 to 3, 44 head, 124 lbs., 102.50; 4 head, 135 lbs., 102.50. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 11 head, 128 lbs., 103.00; 132 to 147 lbs., 102.75 to 104.25 (103.30); 33 head, 152 lbs., 103.50. Wooled Choice and Prime 3 to 4, 17 head, 166 lbs., 98.50. Wooled Choice 2 to 3, 114 to 128 lbs., 100.50 to 102.50 (101.61). Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 4, Special contract order, 9 head, 153 to 157 lbs., 35.00; 6 head, 170 to 185 lbs., 36.00 to 39.00 (36.94); 7 head, 202 lbs., 34.50. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 21 head, 54 lbs., 120.00; 25 head, 81 lbs., 111.50; 92 to 98 lbs., 94.00 to 100.00 (96.10); 11 head, 100 lbs., 100.00. Medium and large frame 2, 16 head, 57 lbs., 111.00; 15 head, 86 lbs., 102.00. Slaughter Kids: Selection 1, 66 head, 38 lbs., 105.00; 50 to 57 lbs., 104.00 to 105.00 (104.55). Slaughter kids: Selection 2, 8 head, 46 lbs., 90.00. Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1, 106 to 122 lbs., 53.50 to 54.00 (53.83). Selection 2, 6 head, 115 to 126 lbs., 44.00 to 45.00 (44.69).
