Seminar brings business mentoring, networking and angel investo

Iowa

Business owners who want to expand and rural Iowans who have the ideas but need a little help to get started have the help they need coming to Clear Lake, Sept. 20 and 21.

The Renew Rural Iowa seminar, to be held at the Best Western Holiday Lodge in Clear Lake, consists of two, one-day seminars featuring highly qualified professionals, who cover all aspects of an entrepreneur's business.

"There are nearly 5,000 small manufacturers in rural Iowa with the potential to expand their businesses and create meaningful jobs in their local communities. All they need is the know-how and to have access to mentoring support to turn those ideas into reality," says Dave Sengpiel, Farm Bureau Senior Investment Manager. "The Renew Rural Iowa seminar brings seasoned business veterans and angel investors together with various investment, accounting, legal and financial experts in a unique hands-on, two-day seminar," says Sengpiel.

Support and enthusiasm for Renew Rural Iowa continues to spread across the state. Renew Rural Iowa was started by Iowa Farm Bureau last September as an innovative mentoring and business model designed to connect rural entrepreneurs to the education, mentoring and financial support they need to grow their business in rural Iowa. The seminar is the cornerstone in helping entrepreneurs in rural communities who want to develop or expand their interstate commerce businesses.

Hundreds of Iowans have attended the five Renew Rural Iowa seminars across the state since Farm Bureau launched the program last year. In attendance: Adam Pollock, owner of Fire Farm, an innovative lighting company based out of Elkader.

"This program is really well put together. I liked the varied panel of experts and professionals who all come together and sit down at the table, so you can ask questions on law, accounting, tax and so many interrelated issues," said Pollock. "I needed certain questions answered about my business which Renew Rural Iowa addressed, such as 'Where do we fit? How big is the market we serve? How well are we serving it? What is my potential growth and if there isn't potential, what are the core underlying reasons?' I think that process is helping side-step misadventures and false starts for so many folks just beginning and it's also helping us focus our resources," said Pollock.

The Clear Lake Renew Rural Iowa seminar will take place Sept. 20 and 21 at the Best Western Holiday Lodge in Clear Lake. Space is limited, so to apply, call 1-800-254-9670 or visit the website at www.iowafarmbureau.com/renewruraliowa.
