Salina cattle auction report
The Farmers and Ranchers Livestock Commission Co., Salina, Kan., reported receipts of 3,521 head Sept. 6, compared to 3,142 head last week and 1,823 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan. Compared to last week, feeder steers at 400 to 600 pounds were not enough for a market test, but selling was very active on a limited supply. Feeder steers weighing 600 to 800 pounds were $1 to $2 higher, and 800 to 950 pounds were steady. Feeder heifers weighing 400 to 600 pounds were $1 to $2 higher, 600 to 700 pounds were $1 higher, and 700 to 850 pounds were steady. Slaughter cows were not tested. Trade was active. Demand was good. Receipts included 89% 600 pounds and over, 10% 600 pounds and under, 2% slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply was 70% steers and 30% heifers.
