Joplin regional cattle salesThe Joplin Regional Stockyards, Joplin, Mo., reported receipts of 6,776 head Sept. 10, compared to 4,400 head two weeks ago and 8,884 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to two weeks ago, steer and heifer calves under 650 pounds were steady to $2 lower, steers over 650 pounds were steady, heifers over 650 pounds were $1 to $2 higher. Demand was good for yearlings and weaned/vaccinated calves, moderate for all others. The supply was moderate to heavy. Recent rains and cooler temperatures has been beneficial for fall pastures. However, some area received too much rain causing fences, hay bales and roads to wash away. The feeder supply included 44% steers, 4% Holsteins, 42% heifers, 10% bulls, with 37% over 600 pounds.
