Amarillo livestock sales

The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 858 head Sept. 11, compared to 1,056 head last week and 974 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, there were extremely light receipts due to recent rains, leaving the market mostly untested, however a few scattered sales of feeder steers and heifers were $1 to $3 higher where tested. Slaughter cows were not enough receipts to accurately determine a trend and bulls untested. The bulk of limited supply Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were moderate to good where tested. Feeder cattle accounted for approximately 94% of the run with cows and bulls accounting for 6% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 48%, heifers 52%, with 41% steers and heifers over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 375 lbs., few 145.00 to 150.00; 400 to 475 lbs., few 138.00 to 148.00; 500 to 550 lbs., few 123.00 to 127.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 290 lbs., 134.00; 300 to 400 lbs., 125.00 to 142.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 120.00 to 132.00; part load 602 lbs., 118.00; load 713 lbs., 117.50.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 475 to 500 lbs., 113.00 to 126.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 108.00 to 121.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 91.00 to 95.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 450 lbs., few 123.00; 500 to 530 lbs., 110.00 to 118.00; load 781 lbs., 108.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 287 to 291 lbs., 119.00 to 126.00; 300 to 400 lbs., 115.00 to 124.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 110.00 to 117.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 108.00 to 118.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 52.00; low dressing, 46.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 52.25 to 53.50; high dressing, 51.00 to 51.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 51.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 40.00 to 44.50.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-aged, 900 to 1350 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, 620.00 to 750.00 per head.
