West Plains regional auction reportThe Ozarks Regional Stockyards, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 4,150 head Aug. 28, compared to 5,020 head last week and 4,212 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, feeder steers traded $2 to $3 higher, heifers were $1 to $2 higher. The supply and demand were moderate to good. Feeders were continuing to show signs of the extreme heat that has hit south to central Missouri for the past several weeks. The high temperatures coupled with extremely dry conditions have resulted in a lack of pasture and consequently producers are bringing their stock to town earlier than originally planned. The feeder supply was made of up 49% steers and bulls, 1% Holstein steers, and 50% heifers, 51% of the total supply weighed over 600 pounds.
