Tulsa livestock market report

The Tulsa Stockyards, Tulsa, Okla., reported receipts of 2,725 head Aug. 28, compared to 1,525 head last week and 3,693 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves were steady to $1 lower. Feeder steers were steady to $1 higher, feeder heifers were steady to $1 lower. There was very good demand with good attendance of buyers. Feeder cattle demand was very strong in the 600- to 700-pound range. Weigh-ups mostly were average to gaunt. Receipts included 48% steers, 39% heifers, 13% bulls, with 28% feeder cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows sold steady to $1 lower. Slaughter bulls were steady. A total of 285 cows and bulls sold with 58% going to packers.

Lean, 54 head, 85 to 90% lean, 975 to 1350 lbs., 51.50 to 55.00; high dressing, 56.00; low dressing, 47.50 to 51.00. Light, 28 head, 85 to 90% lean, 700 to 975 lbs., 44.00 to 47.50; high dressing, 48.00 to 53.50; low dressing, 39.50 to 43.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 20 head, 1300 to 1990 lbs., 64.50 to 68.00; high dressing, 69.00 to 70.00; low dressing, 60.50 to 64.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1, 5 to 6 years old, 1250 to 1500 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality, 850.00 to 1000.00; 7 to 8 years old, 1000 to 1450 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average blacks, 860.00 to 885.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, 5 to 6 years old, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 100 to 300-lb. calves, average quality, 1000.00 to 1125.00.
