Temperatures finally breakMontana High temperatures dropped significantly during the week ending Aug. 26as compared to the previous week, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Montana Field Office, Aug. 27. Mostly highs were in the 80s last week with only a few places in the 90s. The Fort Assinniboine observation site recorded a high of 97 degrees. Wisdom had the low for the week of 25 degrees. Montana received below normal precipitation for the week ending August 26. Albion had 1.15 inches of moisture for the week, the only station to record over an inch of precipitation. Topsoil and subsoil moisture conditions improved slightly due to most areas in the state receiving at least some quantity of moisture. Only nine stations across the state recorded zero moisture, and rainfall was more scattered the previous week. The number of days suitable for fieldwork was 6.2, down from the previous week's 6.9 days. The weather outlook for Sept. 3 through 9 is for above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation both east and west of the continental divide. Normal temperatures for this period in Montana are highs in the upper 60s to the upper 70s and lows in the lower 30s to the lower 50s. Eight percent of range and pasture feed condition has shifted from fair into poor and very poor from the previous week. Thirty-seven percent remains good and excellent this week. Date: 8/29/07
