Yield is estimated at 32 bushels per acre, unchanged from a year ago. Acreage harvested for grain, at 9.0 million acres, is down 400,000 from July 1 and 100,000 acres from last year. Corn production is forecast at 448.8 million bushels, up 30 percent from the previous year's production of 345.0 million bushels. Planted acreage is 3.70 million acres, 350,000 acres more than a year ago. If realized, this will be the highest planted acres since 1943. Acreage expected to be harvested for grain is 3.40 million acres, up 400,000 acres from last year. Corn yields are expected to average 132 bushels per acre, 17 bushels above the 115 bushels per acre in 2006. Kansas sorghum grain production is forecast at 192.4 million bushels, up 33 percent from 145.0 million bushels in 2006. Yields are expected to average 74 bushels per acre, up 16 bushels from last year's yield. Planted acreage is 2.80 million acres, up 50,000 acres from 2006. Sorghum acreage to be harvested for grain, at 2.60 million acres, is up 100,000 acres from 2006. Soybean production is forecast at 78.2 million bushels, down 21 percent from last year's production of 98.6 million bushels. Yield is forecast at 34 bushels per acre, up 2 bushels from last year's yield. Harvested acreage is expected to be 2.30 million acres, down 780,000 acres from the acreage harvested last year Planted acres are estimated at 2.40 million, down 750,000 from 2006. Cotton production is projected to reach 60,000 bales in 2007. Yield is forecast at 576 pounds of lint per acre. Planted acreage is 55,000 acres, down 60,000 acres from last year. Harvested acreage is forecast at 50,000, also down 60,000 acres from last year. United States: All wheat production is placed at 2.11 billion bushels, down 1 percent from the July forecast but up 17 percent from 2006. Based on August 1 conditions, the U.S. yield is forecast at 40.6 bushels per acre, down 0.1 bushel from last month but 1.9 bushels above last year. Winter wheat production is forecast at 1.54 billion bushels. This is down 2 percent from last month but 18 percent above 2006. The U.S. yield is forecast at 41.3 bushels per acre, down 0.3 bushel from last month and down 0.4 bushel from last year. Acres for harvest as grain are forecast at 37.2 million acres, down 1 percent from last month but up 20 percent from last year. The 2007 sorghum grain production forecast is 475 million bushels, up 71 percent from 2006. Expected area for harvest as grain is forecast at 6.70 million acres, up 36 percent from 2006. Based on August 1 conditions, yield is forecast at 70.9 bushels per acre, up 14.7 bushels from 2006. Compared with last year, yield increases are expected in 10 of the 11 top producing States. In Kansas and Texas, the top two producing States, yields are expected to increase 16 bushels and 19 bushels from last year, respectively. Corn production is forecast at 13.1 billion bushels, up 24 percent from last year and 17 percent above 2005. Based on August 1 conditions, yields are expected to average 152.8 bushels per acre, up 3.7 bushels from last year. If realized, yields would be the second highest on record, behind the 160.4 bushel yield in 2004. However, production will be the largest on record as growers intend to harvest the most corn acres for grain since 1933. Yield forecasts are higher than last year across the Great Plains where frequent rainfall during much of the growing season provided abundant soil moisture for filling the crop. Higher yields are also expected in the central Corn Belt and Delta where timely rains benefited the crop. Expected yields across much of the northern and eastern Corn Belt, Ohio Valley, Tennessee Valley, Southeast, and Atlantic Coast States are below last year as hot, dry conditions during much of the growing season reduced soil moisture supplies and stressed the crop. Soybean production is forecast at 2.63 billion bushels, down 18 percent from 2006 and down 14 percent from 2005. Based on August 1 conditions, yields are expected to average 41.5 bushels per acre, down 1.2 bushels from last year. Acreage for harvest is estimated at 63.3 million acres, unchanged from June but down 15 percent from 2006. Date: 8/30/07
