Maturity

Maturity is a virtue,

or, at least, so I've been told.

But, to me, it seems a little too much

like when you're gettin' old.

Maturity is that time in life

when your wisdom makes great gains.

But why does it hafta go along

with all them aches and pains?

You begin to measure what you say.

You control that heated retort.

But, how come it goes hand in hand

with your wind a gettin' short?

Maturity changes your insight.

You can see a problem clear.

Or, maybe you miss the problems

because you just can't hear.

Maturity is a treasure,

even in this modern day.

But, once you've learned the rules of the game,

then you're too damned old to play.
