Wyobraska cattle sales reportThe combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Sept. 29, totaled 10,800 head, compared to 6,200 head last week and 9,000 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo. Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves were not well tested due to limited receipts last, however a steady to firm undertone was noted except on 500- to 600-pound heifers at steady to weak, yearlings were mostly steady, instances of $1 higher on few comparable sales. Demand was good. Overall quality was mostly average. Direct trading was moderate this week. Comparable sales were mostly steady. Demand was moderate to good. Buyer inquiry was moderate to good. Offerings were moderate. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 75% of the supply, heifers 25%, with 99% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 5925 head of the total receipts.
