Three NRCS offices to close

Nebraska

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service office in Harrisburg, Chappell and Loup City, will close its doors Sept. 28.

"Farmers, ranchers and landowners have already been notified by mail that they will be provided service out of a near-by NRCS office, or the NRCS office of their choice if they responded to the mailing," said Steve Chick NRCS State Conservationist.

Unless the producer chooses otherwise, NRCS technical and financial services will come from:

--Banner County services from Scottsbluff, 818 Ferdinand Plaza, Suite C, or 308-632-2195, ext. 3;

--Deuel County services from Sidney, 2244 Jackson Street, or 308-254-4507, ext. 3;

--Sherman County services from Ord, North Highway 11, or 308-728-3244, ext. 3.

The North Platte Natural Resources District will maintain a secretary in the Harrisburg USDA Service Center for district functions until Oct. 12.

The Lower Loup Natural Resources District will maintain a secretary in the Loup City USDA Service Center for district functions until about Nov. 15.

At the end of August, the Benkelman office in Dundy County was closed with service provided from Imperial.

The office closings are part of an NRCS effort to reduce costs and improve staff efficiency triggered by a reduced budget. The office closures were announced in July by NRCS after a series of public meetings and approval by USDA. The NRCS will have 77 offices in Nebraska serving all 93 counties.
