Thornton to open 36th E85 fueling stationColorado The Colorado Corn Growers Association together with the Governor's Biofuels Coalition, Regional Air Quality Council, Western Convenience Store and General Motors are partnering to celebrate the opening of a new E85 pump location at 9190 Huron Street in Thornton, Colo. E85 is an environmentally safe and renewable fuel made from corn. It contains 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. Consumers who drive Flex-Fuel Vehicles can use any combination of E85 and gasoline. "The CCGA has been involved in the advancement of renewable fuels for decades," says Mark Sponsler, CEO of the CCGA. "It is great to have partners that are committed to making a difference for cleaner air and renewable energy. It's also clear that consumers are tired of dependence on foreign oil and want to start making changes. The consumer demand is growing for new choices, such as cleaner burning, renewable, and domestic-sourced ethanol at the pump and we're giving them yet another choice." With the cost of fuel soaring near $3 a gallon during the busy summer driving season, consumers who drive FFV's will have an opportunity to save money by filling up for only 85 cents a gallon Sept. 19. The CCGA is making E85 ethanol available for 85 cents a gallon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Western Convenience store in Thornton. Western Convenience is installing a total of fifteen E85 pump locations. The Colorado Corn Growers Association will provide a portion of the infrastructure dollars needed through a Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality grant to assist five of the locations. The Governor's Biofuels Coalition is providing funding to assist Western Convenience on the additional 10 stations.
