Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 988 head Oct. 1, compared to 1,247 head last week and 1,688 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold steady to $1 lower. Slaughter ewes sold $1 to $2 lower. Feeder lambs traded steady to $1 lower. Receipts included about 44% slaughter ewes, 42% slaughter lambs, 9% feeder lambs and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 4. 22 head, 121 lbs., 101.50; 133 to 142 lbs., 101.50 to 102.00 (101.69). Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 124 to 127 lbs., 99.25 to 100.50 (100.08); 132 to 148 lbs., 99.00 to 101.25 (100.29).

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 160 to 188 lbs., 23.50 to 28.00 (25.35). Utility and Good 1 to 2, 167 to 198 lbs., 18.00 to 20.50 (19.58). Cull and Utility 1 to 2, 134 to 156 lbs., 12.50 to 15.50 (13.84).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 19 head, 75 to 76 lbs., 110.00; 84 to 88 lbs., 99.00 to 101.00 (100.08); 9 head, 100 lbs., 95.00. Medium and large frame 2, 6 head, 69 lbs., 95.00; 8 head, 85 lbs., 92.00 to 96.00 (93.00).

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 31 head, 40 lbs., 103.00; 56 head, 52 lbs., 105.00. Selection 1 to 2, 5 head, 39 lbs., 97.00; 13 head, 58 lbs., 95.00.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1 to 2, 105 to 108 lbs., 40.00; 9 head, 132 lbs., 45.00.
