Kottkamp, Nelson's cow-calf pairs pay big dividendsDenver Chandis and Emilee Kottkamp, Clayton, Ind., and Kaci Nelson, Burwell, Neb., won top honors in the cow-calf show during the eighth annual Junior National Hereford Expo in Denver, on July 12. Both pairs dominated the standard pairs division and took overall grand champion and reserve grand champion honors. Randy Daniel, Colbert, Ga., sorted 52 pairs to determine Kottkamps as the overall winner. "This was an incredibly talented group of young people with an excellent group of pairs. The numbers really showed, and the presence of the pair determined the winner's success," said Daniel. The overall grand and standard cow-calf pair champion, EKS Spirdge Taylor P606 513RET, is a March 2005 daughter by PW Victor Boomer P606 with a March bull calf by BR Wildfire 2153 at her side. EKS Spirdge Taylor P606 513RET also won the standard pair division and showed with expected progeny differences of birth weight 5.8; weaning weight 44; yearling weight; maternal milk 19; and milk and growth 41. The reserve grand champion and reserve standard cow-calf pair went to Nelson with GLM 492M Senora G 409, a February 2004 cow by HH Hunter 492M, and a January heifer calf sired by UPS Kootenay 3228 1ET. GLM 492M Senora G 409's EPDs read BW 3.0; WW 37; YW 57; MM 7 and M&G 25. Champion bred-and-owned cow-calf pair went to Ashley Berkram, Park City, Mont., with ASH Heidi 39R ET by PW Victor Boomer P606 and her February heifer calf by Mohican Roughout 428R ET. ASH Heidi 39R ET showed with EPDs of BW 6.4; WW 54; YW 82; MM 21 and M&G 48. Brady Jensen, Courtland, Kan., took home the reserve champion bred-and-owned cow-calf pair title with KJ BJ 380L Peppermint 040R ET, a March 2005 daughter of PW Victor Boomer P606, with her February heifer calf by KJ C&L BJ 204 R.H. Carson 958R. The cow showed with EPDs of BW 5.4; WW 44; YW 62; MM 23 and M&G 45. Additional results include: --Bred-and-owned pairs: Class 012: Amanda Brooks, Jonesborough, Tenn., with AB 4062 Lassie 8006 6008 by H 8E Embracer 8006 and a November heifer calf by Boyd Aristocrat 2109. Class 013: Jennifer Koziol, Okmulgee, Okla., with LH Miss Domino 3244 by DM L1 Domino 818 and a November heifer calf by LaGrand Reload 80P ET. --Standard pairs: Class 014: Jared Patterson, Burley, Idaho, with SB 32N Sara 122R ET by SB 122L Pride Line 32N ET and a March heifer calf by TCW Red Obsidian M326 412R. Class 016: Kade Patton, Frankfort, Ind., with AA Online Lady 524 by Remitall Online 122L and a February heifer calf by AA Loaded 5100. Class 017: Jamie Tummons, Bardwell, Texas, with CH Ms Hallmark 427 ET by MSU BR Hallmark 25H and a February heifer calf by DM BR L1 Domino 146. Class 019: Mark and Catie Sims, Elgin, Okla., with Spearhead Penny N5 by Remitall Online 122L and a March heifer calf by NJW 1Y Wrangler 19D.
