Governor presentsBest of Show award at fair Kansas Proudly wearing his Kansas Cattlemen's Association cap, Norm Oeding accepted the award for Best of Show for grain sorghum from Governor Kathleen Sebelius. A KCA and National Grain Sorghum Producers Association member, Oeding grows gain sorghum and wheat in Kingman County near Willowdale, Kan. His white food grade variety milo, 902W from Warner Seed Co., can be used for a variety of markets, including human consumption, gluten free diets, dairy, and cattle feed. According to NGSPA half of the milo in the world is consumed directly by humans. Consumers may be familiar with Oeding's wheat products as well. Oeding grows his certified organic red and white varieties of wheat and grinds the flour under the label Spring Creek Ranch and sells the bread under the brand Little Red Hen Bakery in Wsichita area health food stores. During the award ceremony, Oeding presented the governor with a loaf of his Little Red Hen Bakery bread. "This is a great honor, especially to win best of show twice. I hope that we can continue to promote producer issues including country-of-origin labeling, which will allow people to identify U.S. produced food. It's important to understand that we can grow our own food and contribute to the community as well," Oeding explained. Oeding's first Best of Show award was won in 2004. 10/8/07 Date: 10/4/07
