Faith livestock market report

The Faith Livestock Commission Co., Faith, S.D., reported receipts of 3,433 head Oct. 1, compared to 666 head last week and 6,200 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $2 higher. Steer and heifer calf trends were not applicable due to the light calf offerings last week, however a higher undertone was noted. Buyer demand was good on calves over 550 pounds and feeder cattle, moderate on calves under 550 pounds, especially heifers. Slaughter cows and bulls were $1 to $2 lower. In the feeder supply, 48% were steers, 4% bulls, and heifers 48%. The supply was comprised of 39% cattle weighing over 600 pounds.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1425 to 1750 lbs., 49.00 to 50.50; high dressing, 52.75; low dressing, 45.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1200 to 1550 lbs., 47.00 to 48.50; high dressing, 53.00; low dressing, 44.00 to 46.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1100 to 1250 lbs., 44.00 to 46.50; low dressing, 38.00 to 42.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1350 to 2025 lbs., 52.00 to 54.75; high dressing, 57.25; low dressing, 47.00 to 49.50.
