St. Onge livestock sale newsThe St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 3,366 head Oct. 19, compared to 2,757 head last week and 4,853 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, steer calves below 500 pounds were steady, over 500 pounds were steady to $2 lower with greatest decline on 550 to 600 pounds. Heifer calves under 550 pounds sold steady, above 550 pounds were $1 to $2 higher. A limited test of yearling steers and heifers sold mostly steady. Buyer demand was moderate to good on all classes. Many small consignments included in the run with a few load lots. The offering consisted of 54% steers, 46% heifers, with 26% over 600 pounds.
