Sioux Falls sheep salesThe Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 804 head Oct. 22, compared to 725 head last week and 1,816 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold $2 to $3 lower with the most notable discount on lambs with excess mud in fleece. Slaughter ewes sold steady on a light test. Trends were not applicable on feeder lambs due to limited comparable sales however, a steady undertone was noted. Receipts were about 86% slaughter lambs, 13% feeder lambs, 8% slaughter ewes and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep. Slaughter lambs: Shorn, Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 16 head, 121 lbs., 92.25. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 11 head, 102 lbs., 89.50; 119 to 129 lbs., 9.25 to 92.25 (90.72); 130 to 148 lbs., 89.25 to 93.75 (91.50). Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 12 head, 175 to 179 lbs., 33.00. Good 2 to 4, 6 head, 244 lbs., 19.00. Utility 1 to 2, 135 to 151 lbs., 21.00 to 25.00 (21.65). Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 7 head, 99 lbs., 96.00. Medium and large frame 2, 18 head, 43 lbs., 112.00; 42 head, 55 lbs., 108.00; 9 head, 67 lbs., 94.00; 9 head, 100 lbs., 89.00.
