Salina cattle auction report

The Farmers and Ranchers Livestock Commission Co., Salina, Kan., reported receipts of 2,309 head Oct. 18, compared to 2,108 head, last week and 2,766 head, last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared with last week, Medium and large frame 1, steers at 350 to 500 pounds were $1 to $3 higher, 500 to 700 pounds were steady to $4 lower on a light test, and 700 to 950 pounds were steady to $1 lower. Heifers at 400 to 650 pounds were steady on a light test, 650 to 800 pounds showed no comparison last week, but a steady to weaker undertone was noted, and 800 to 950 pounds were steady to $1 higher. Lower grading and fleshy steers and heifers were $1 to $4 lower. Slaughter cows were not tested. Trade and demand were moderate. The feeder supply consisted of 70% steers and 30% heifers. Receipts included 79% 600 pounds and over, 18% 600 pounds and under, 3% slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply consisted of 70% steers and 30% heifers.
