OKC West livestock sales report

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 4,718 head Oct. 24, compared to 3,984 head last week and 4,664 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were $2 to $3 lower. Feeder heifers were steady with previous week's light test. Demand was moderate to good for feeder cattle. The downward pressure on live prices continued from the paper side as cattle futures were again lower along with boxed beef prices and corn prices. Steer and heifer calves were steady to $3 lower with limited numbers of Medium and large frame No. 1 calves holding steady. Demand continues moderate at best with best action on long weaned calves or those less likely to end up in the sick pen. Feeder cattle were in medium to fleshy conditions. The supply included 66% cattle over 600 pounds, 24% under 600 pounds, 8% cows and bulls. The total supply consisted of 27% heifers. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady. Packer demand was moderate. A total of 398 cows and bulls sold with 48% going to packers.

Yearlings, 700 to 775 lbs., 110.00 to 115.75; 800 to 900 lbs., 105.50 to 110.75; lot 930 lbs., 100.00; 2 loads, 975 lbs., 96.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, calves 450 to 500 lbs., 113.00 to 117.00; 525 to 600 lbs., 110.00 to 112.50; 600 to 650 lbs., 102.00 to 113.50. Yearlings, 650 to 700 lbs., 113.00 to 115.50; 700 to 725 lbs., 113.50 to 114.75; 750 to 800 lbs., 107.50 to 110.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 100.00 to 108.50. Medium and large frame 2, 375 lbs., 124.00; 425 to 500 lbs., 107.00 to 114.00; 500 to 525 lbs., 112.00 to 112.25; 550 to 600 lbs., 105.00 to 110.00, 570 lbs., thin 112.50; 625 lbs., 105.00. Lean, 35 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1375 lbs., 45.00 to 47.00; low dressing, 39.00 to 42.50. Lights, 11 head, 80 to 90% lean, 900 to 1000 lbs., 43.50; low dressing, 35.00 to 38.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 18 head, 1500 to 2200 lbs., 57.00 to 59.00; high dressing, 60.00 to 63.00; low dressing, 53.00 to 56.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 3 years old, 1000 to 1250 lbs., 2 to 7 months bred, average quality, 740.00 to 875.00; 4 to 7 years old, 950 to 1200 lbs., 2 to 7 months bred, average blacks, 750.00 to 890.00; 10 years old, 1200 to 1300 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, average quality, 590.00 to 640.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 5 years old, 1000 to 1200 lbs., with 100- to 300-lb. calves, average quality, 1090.00 to 1140.00.
