Newell livestock sales report

St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 5,657 head Oct. 18, compared to 3,854 head last week and 5,324 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, feeder lambs were unevenly steady. Slaughter ewes sold weak to $1 lower. A mostly steady undertone noted on replacement ewes. Buyer demand was good for all classes with best demand for feeder lambs in the 60-, 80-, and 100-pound ranges. The run was comprised of primarily large lots of feeder lambs and mixed age replacement ewes. The run was comprised of 83% feeder lambs, 16% slaughter lambs with the balance being mostly miscellaneous sheep and slaughter bucks.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice 2 to 4, 7 head, 154 lbs., 80.50.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 165 to 172 lbs., 23.00 to 24.00 (23.92). Good 3 to 4, 206 to 207 lbs., 17.50 to 18.50 (17.88). Utility 1 to 2, 143 to 151 lbs., 18.25. Cull 1, 158 head, 134 lbs., 13.25; 9 head, 173 lbs., 13.75.

Feeder lambs: Medium and Large 1 to 2, 53 to 56 lbs., 115.50 to 118.00 (117.08); 61 to 67 lbs., 110.50 to 116.00 (113.86); 71 to 79 lbs., 106.25 to 112.50 (108.63); 80 to 89 lbs., 98.75 to 105.00 (103.00); 90 to 98 lbs., 97.00 to 99.25 (98.60); 33 head, 97 lbs., 92.25 poor fleeces; 103 to 108 lbs., 93.00 to 96.50 (95.82); 64 head, 101 lbs., 91.75 poor fleeces; 13 head, 118 lbs., 88.25; 35 head, 121 lbs., 89.00. Medium and large frame 2, 8 head, 38 lbs., 101.50; 43 to 49 lbs., 95.50 to 107.00 (101.50); 46 head, 53 lbs., 108.00.

Replacement ewes: Whitefaced, Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 243 head, 2 to 5 years old, 160 to 175 lbs., 66.00 to 74.50; 160 head, 4 to 6 years old, 150 to 180 lbs., 50.00 to 58.50; 92 head, aged, 150 lbs., 47.50.

Aged slaughter bucks: Medium fleshed, 11 head, 219 lbs 23.25; thin fleshed, 5 head, 216 lbs., 7.50 per cwt.
