Colorado feeder cattle news
The Colorado Auction Feeder Cattle Summary, Greeley, Colo., Oct. 19, reported receipts of 17,150 head, compared to 10,350 head last week and 16,265 head last year, according to the USDA to Colorado Department of Agriculture Market News, Greeley, Colo. Compared to last week, steer calves were $1 to $3 higher, with instances of $4 to $5 higher on weights under 550 pounds. Heifer calves sold mostly steady to $2 higher. Yearling steers and heifers were steady to $1 higher in a limited test. Demand was moderate to good, with the best demand on lighter weight calves suitable for wheat pasture. This week also saw the first of the large calf runs, with a sizable percentage of source verified cattle. The supply was made up of 56% feeder steers, the balance was feeder heifers, with about 35% of the total supply over 600 pounds.
