Amarillo livestock sales
The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,401 head Oct. 23, compared to 1,857 head last week and 2,133 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were steady. Steer and heifer calves were steady, except 300- to 400-pound steers were $3 to $4 higher. Slaughter cows were $2 lower. Slaughter bulls were not enough to test. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were moderate. Feeder cattle accounted for approximately 82% of the run with cows and bulls accounting for 18% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 72%, heifers 28%, steers and heifers over 600 pounds 64%. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 37.00 to 41.50; high dressing, 45.00. Slaughter bulls: Low dressing, 1400 lbs., 50.00, individual.
