Wyobraska cattle sales report
The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Oct. 13 totaled 11,400 head, compared to 10,035 head last week and 14,525 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo. Compared to last week at Wyoming auctions steers and heifers calves sold steady to $2 higher, and yearlings were not fully tested, however a steady undertone was noted. Demand was good. Direct trading was moderate. There were not enough comparable sales for an adequate market test. Demand and buyer inquiry were moderate to good. Offerings were moderate. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 53% of the supply, heifers 47%, with 35% of the offerings over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 1350 head of the total receipts.
