West Plains regional sales
The Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 3,065 head Oct. 16, compared to 3,542 head last week and 1,850 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, steers and heifers were $2 to $5 lower, with most 550- to 600-weight heifers $4 to $6 lower. Although there were some scattered sales of better quality and conditioned calves steady at times, even a few toppy 7 weights firm, but heavier cattle were not well tested. However, the majority of calves were $2 to $4 lower. The supply was moderate. Demand light to moderate, buyers selective, often times particular. The feeder supply consisted of 42% steers, 7% bulls and 51% heifers. Near 29% weighed over 600 pounds. Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 124.00 to 138.00, lot fancy 384 lbs., 141.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 117.00 to 132.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 109.00 to 119.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 107.50 to 115.00; few 700 to 800 lbs., 105.00 to 113.50; lot 838 lbs., full 104.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 274 lbs., thin 145.00; 350 to 400 lbs., 115.00 to 127.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 112.50 to 120.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 104.00 to 117.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 102.50 to 114.00, several weaned/thin 115.00 to 117.00; 750 to 800 lbs., 102.50 to 105.00.
