St. Onge livestock sales
The St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 2,757 head Oct. 12, compared to 3,389 head last week and 4,168 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, steer calves under 600 pounds were $1 to $2 higher, over 600 pounds and yearlings were mostly $2 lower. All weights and classes of heifers sold $1 to $3 lower. Demand was moderate to good for all classes. The majority of the sale was comprised of small consignments. The supply was comprised of 56% steers, 44% heifers, with 21% of the supply over 600 pounds.
