Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 725 head Oct. 15, compared to 1,389 head last week and 1,282 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold steady to $1 higher, and the overnight lambs showed the gain. There were not enough slaughter ewes and feeder lambs for an accurate market trend, however a steady to firm undertone was noted. Receipts included about 82% slaughter lambs, 7% feeder lambs, 6% slaughter ewes and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 114 to 127 lbs., 93.00 to 96.00 (95.43); 140 to 141 lbs., 95.75 to 96.25 (96.15). Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 115 to 129 lbs., 91.75 to 93.25 (92.24); 130 to 147 lbs., 93.50 to 96.25 (95.15).

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 17 head, 16 lbs., 32.50; 9 head, 178 lbs., 30.00. Good 2 to 4, 6 head, 130 to 158 lbs., 19.00 to 20.00 (19.55).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1, 18 head, 70 to 75 lbs., 101.00 to 105.00 (104.41); 6 head, 91 to 95 lbs., 95.50 to 97.50 (96.81). Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 7 head, 77 lbs., 95.00. Medium and large frame 2, 7 head, 53 lbs., 95.00.

Slaughter kids: Selection 2, 22 head, 66 lbs., 75.50.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1, 36 head, 109 lbs., 52.00; 8 head, 132 lbs., 51.00.
