Salina cattle auction report

The Farmers and Ranchers Livestock Commission Co., Salina, Kan., reported receipts of 2,108 head, Oct. 11, compared to 1,626 head, last week and 2,812 head, last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared with last week, on a light test of Medium and large frame 1 calves, steers at 350 to 700 pounds and heifers at 350 to 600 pounds were steady to $2 higher. On a light test, steers at 700 to 950 pounds were steady to $3 lower, with full decline on lower grading and fleshy steers. Heifers at 600 to 925 pounds were not enough for a test, although lower grading and fleshy heifers were $2 to $3 lower. Slaughter cows were not tested. Trade and demand were light to moderate. The feeder supply consisted of 70% steers and 30% heifers. Receipts included 81% 600 pounds and over, 18% 600 pounds and under, 1% slaughter cows and bulls.
