Faith livestock auction reportThe Faith Livestock Commission Co., Faith, S.D., reported receipts of 5,469 head Oct. 15, compared to 4,725 head last week and 6264 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, steer calves under 500 pounds were steady to $2 higher, and over 500-pound calves and yearlings were $2 to $3 higher. Heifer calves under 550 pounds sold mostly steady, and over 550-pound calves and yearlings were mostly $2 higher. The sale consisted of primarily load lots of fancy reputation consignments of calves and thin-fleshed yearlings. A wide array of both local and out-of-state buyers were on hand to fill their needs. Buyer demand was good to very good on all classes. Buyers also acquired several replacement quality heifers throughout the day. Slaughter cows and bulls sold mostly steady with the majority of the cows heading to feeding interests. The supply was comprised of 97% feeders, 3% cows and bulls. In the feeder run, 62% were steers; 38% heifers, with 22% of the feeder supply over 600 pounds.
