Dalhart cattle sales reportThe cattleman's Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 2,585 head Oct. 11, compared to 1,846 head last week and 1,155 head last year, according to the Texas Department of Agriculture Market News-USDA Market News, Amarillo, Texas. Compared to last week, feeder steers under 600 pounds were steady, with instances of fancy offerings at $2 higher. Yearlings over 600 pounds were steady and calves were weak. Feeder heifers under 500 pounds were steady to weak, over 500 pounds were mostly $2 to $4 lower, with instances of a few yearlings and fancy weaned offerings staying firm. Buyers tended to be very selective. Slaughter cows and slaughter bulls were steady. Trade was moderate and demand was light to moderate. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 850-pound feeder steers and heifers. Feeder cattle accounted for 81%, slaughter cows and bulls 19% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 58% of the run, heifers 42%, steers and heifers instances over 600 pounds totaled 50%.
