Corn harvest in full swing

TO MARKET--The Mike and Jennifer Standley farm, north of Garden City, Kan., is in full fall harvest mode. Here Steve Standley, Mike's father, operates the combine while an employee waits with the grain truck. The Standleys harvested this irrigation circle of corn, and averaged 220 bushels per acre. The Standleys are storing most of their corn on the farm because there has been a short storage situation at the nearby elevators. "Everything's been good, despite summer hail and windstorms," Standley said. "We can't complain about the harvest." (Journal photos by Jennifer M. Latzke.)
