Wyobraska cattle sales report

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Oct. 6, totaled 10,035 head, compared to 10,800 head last week and 12,100 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week at Wyoming auctions steers and heifers calves sold generally steady, yearlings sold steady to $3 lower. Demand was good. Overall quality was mostly average. Direct trading was moderate. Comparable sales were mostly steady. Demand and buyer inquiry were moderate to good. Offerings were moderate. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 65% of the supply, heifers 35%, with 49% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 1917 head of the total receipts.
