Precipitation below average for this time of yearColorado Precipitation was limited across Colorado during the week ending Oct. 7, and most areas reported amounts well below average for this time of year, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Colorado Field Office, Oct. 8. This, along with elevated temperatures statewide allowed producers an average of 6.0 days suitable for fieldwork. Winter wheat was 84 percent seeded and 59 percent emerged by the end of last week. The crop is rated in mostly good condition. Sorghum was 76 percent mature and 22 percent harvested. The crop is in mostly good condition. Dry onions were 83 percent harvested by week's end. Sunflowers were 45 percent harvested and rated in mostly good condition. Summer potatoes were 81 percent harvested. This is behind last year and the 5-year average of 89 percent. Fall potatoes were 60 percent harvested and in mostly good to fair condition. Corn was 92 percent mature and 29 percent harvested with 98 percent of the corn silage crop harvested. The crop is in mostly good condition. Sugarbeets were 20 percent harvested and in mostly good condition. Dry beans were 91 percent cut and 72 percent harvested by the end of the week. Third cutting was 99 percent complete with 4th cutting 35 percent complete by the end of the week. The crop is in mostly good to fair condition. Conditions remained about the same as the previous week and are rated in mostly good to fair. Death loss for cattle was reported at average while sheep were slightly below average last week. Livestock is rated in mostly good condition. Stored feed supplies are above average for this time of year. Date: 10/10/07
