Pratt livestock sales report

Pratt Livestock Sales Inc., Pratt, Kan., reported receipts of 2,194 head Oct. 4, compared to 1,608 head last week and 1,364 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared to last week, feeder steers at 300 to 700 pounds were not enough for a market test but a steady undertone was noted. Feeder steers at 700 to 1000 pounds were steady to $1 lower. Feeder heifers at 300 to 850 pounds were not enough for a market test but a lower undertone was noted. Trade was active demand was good. Slaughter cows were $2 lower. Slaughter bulls were not tested. Receipts included 80% 600 pounds and over, 8% 600 pounds and under, 12% cows and bulls. The feeder supply included 82% steers and 18% heifers.

Bred cows: Per head, bred 2nd trimester, Medium and large frame 1, middle aged, 9 head, 1282 lbs., 850.00; bred 2nd trimester, Large frame 1, aged, short and solid, 9 head, 1311 lbs., 730.00.

Slaughter cows: Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 46.00 to 51.00; high dressing, 53.00 to 56.00; low dressing, 40.00 to 45.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1 head, 60.00; low dressing, 2 head, 53.00 to 54.00 (53.50).
