Newell sheep sales report

St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 3,217 head Oct. 4, compared to 5,196 head last week and 9,292 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, feeder lambs under 80 pounds were steady. Lambs over 80 pounds sold mostly steady, instances sold $1 lower. Slaughter ewes were steady. Buyer demand good for all classes. The offering consisted 84% feeder lambs, 11% slaughter ewes, 3% replacement ewes, 1% slaughter lambs, with the balance being slaughter bucks and miscellaneous sheep.

Slaughter lambs: Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 19 head, 146 lbs., 95.50. Wooled Choice 2 to 3, 7 head, 131 lbs., 93.25.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 73 head, 174 lbs., 24.50. Good 3 to 4, 19 head, 200 to 231 lbs., 17.00 to 20.00 (18.63). Utility 1 to 2, 156 head, 144 lbs., 17.00. Cull 1, 86 head, 128 lbs., 13.50.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 78 head, 48 lbs., 115.25; 28 head, 51 lbs., 115.50; 63 to 69 lbs., 113.75 to 116.50 (114.52); 70 to 79 lbs., 108.00 to 113.75 (110.21); 123 head, 85 lbs., 108.25 ewe lambs; 84 to 88 lbs., 102.50 to 107.50 (103.58); 6 head, 93 lbs., 101.00; 101 to 109 lbs., 92.50 to 97.25 (96.71); 32 head, 110 lbs., 93.50.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 2, 17 head, 56 lbs., 111.50; 36 head, 98 lbs., 95.25.

Bred replacement ewes: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Whitefaced, 49 head, 5 to 6 years old, 176 lbs., 67.50 to 70.00; 11 head, aged, 175 lbs., 60.00.

Aged slaughter bucks: Whitefaced, 7 head, 253 lbs., 17.75.
