High school and transfer students can learn more about the academic programs within the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources during the Experience the Power of Red Open House.

The Nov. 3 open house will allow students to meet with UNL faculty and staff and experience UNL's East Campus, said Laura Frey, college relations director.

"Students will be able to learn more about our 27 programs of study and explore future career opportunities," Frey said.

Academic interest areas featured at the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, or CASNR, open house include: agribusiness/agricultural economics; agricultural education/agricultural journalism; agronomy/horticulture/plant biology; animal science; biochemistry; diversified agricultural studies; food science and technology; food technology for companion animals; forensic science; grazing livestock systems; hospitality, restaurant and tourism management; insect science; mechanized systems management/agricultural engineering; natural resources; professional golf management and veterinary science.

In addition, parent sessions will allow parents to learn more about financial aid, scholarships, student services and other programs in CASNR.

Registration for the open house begins at 9:30 a.m. with a welcome and overview at 10:30 a.m. Academic sessions will continue throughout the morning until a 1 p.m. lunch and scholarship drawing. The open house will conclude with 2:30 p.m. optional campus tours.

"Not only will students be able to learn about possible future careers, but they can also connect with other future and current students," Frey said.

Preregistration for the open house is due Oct. 26. For more information or to register call CASNR at 800-742-8800, extension 2541, e-mail casnr@unl.edu or visit the Web at www.casnr.unl.edu.
