Night ThingsWhen the earth is cooled by darkness, and daylight laid to rest, the moon invades the landscape, her kingdom repossessed. She scatters out her moonbeams. They twinkle all about. Another world starts waking up. The night things then come out. The coyote choir starts tuning up. A whippoorwill now sings. An owl embarks on a hunting trip, borne up on silent wings. Small creatures scamper through the grass beneath a pale blue light. Whitetails browse, then startle and speed away in flight. This secret world awakened, this drama played at night will retreat once more, unnoticed, with the coming of dawn's light. Another scene's unfolding. The sun will run his route 'til he spends himself at evening, and the night things come back out. Date: 10/8/07
