Stewardship award deadline approaching

Wyoming

The application deadline for the Environmental Stewardship Award and Aldo Leopold Conservation Award is Sept. 30. The award winner will be announced in January and will be selected by WSGA, the Wyoming Department of Agriculture CRM Program, and the Sand County Foundation. Applications can be found by visiting www.wysga.org or by calling the WSGA office at 307-638-3942.

The Environmental Stewardship Award is an annual statewide award given to an agricultural landowner who has exhibited exceptional natural resource stewardship. The award goes hand in hand with the Leopold Conservation Award, which includes a check for $10,000. Given in honor of famed conservationist Aldo Leopold, the Leopold Conservation Award recognizes extraordinary achievement in voluntary conservation. In his influential book, A Sand County Almanac (1949), Aldo Leopold called for an ethical relationship between people and the land they own and manage, which he called "an evolutionary possibility and an ecological necessity."

In the summer of 2008, there will be a tour of the winning ranch.

For more information, or to apply, please contact the WSGA office at 307-638-3942.
