Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 11,422 head Sept. 21, compared to 3,444 head last week and 7,582 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, feeder lambs over 70 pounds were steady. Lambs under 70 pounds sold $2 to $4 higher. Slaughter ewes were weak to $2 lower. Large attendance for the annual Replacement Ewe, Ewe Lamb, and Feeder Lamb Special with good buyer demand for all classes. The supply included 61% feeder lambs, 12% slaughter ewes, and 25% replacement ewes with the balance being mostly slaughter bucks and miscellaneous lambs. Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice 2 to 3, 6 head, 141 lbs., 88.00. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 99 head, 139 lbs., 27.50; 173 to 178 lbs., 24.00 to 25.00 (24.92). Good 3 to 4, 59 head, 190 lbs., 18.00. Utility 1 to 2, 144 to 152 lbs., 21.25 to 23.00 (21.30); 10 head, 161 lbs., 22.50. Cull 1, 134 to 141 lbs., 15.25 to 16.00 (15.35). Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 53 to 57 lbs., 116.50 to 121.50 (120.10); 62 to 67 lbs., 114.00 to 119.50 (117.33); 416 head, 76 lbs., 119.00 fancy; 70 to 79 lbs., 107.75 to 117.50 (112.11); 82 to 84 lbs., 107.50 to 108.50 (107.85) ewe lambs; 80 to 89 lbs., 104.00 to 109.75 (107.29); 85 to 87 lbs., 100.00 to 104.00 (103.40) poor fleeces; 90 to 97 lbs., 100.50 to 105.00 (102.79); 12 head, 99 lbs., 77.00 buck lambs; 103 to 109 lbs., 99.50 to 103.50 (101.18); 53 head, 117 lbs., 95.75; 29 head, 124 lbs., 95.25 black face.
