New corn products offer top yields for farmersDEKALB has introduced its 2008 class of 41 new YieldMaker products, all of which have been developed from a broad, industry-leading germplasm pool and tested under local growing conditions. The 2008 lineup includes products developed for improved weed control and season-long insect protection. "Our new YieldMaker corn products contain exclusive genetics and a wide range of traits with greater standability, yield potential and drydown capabilities," says Bob Starke, Ph.D., U.S. DEKALB Corn Product Manager for Monsanto. "Our 2008 lineup is state of the art, and we have the numbers from extensive research and field trials to back up this claim." "13,475 DEKALB and third-party in-field comparisons showed that DEKALB YieldMaker corn products outyielded competitive products by an average of 9.2 bushels per acre," said Starke. These same field comparisons also showed that DEKALB YieldMaker corn products were on average 0.5 percent drier at harvest than competitive products. "Together, the yield and drydown advantages of DEKALB corn delivered an average profit advantage of $28.21 per acre compared with competitive products," Starke says. Along with high-performing germplasm, YieldMaker corn products offer farmers a wide selection of built-in traits, allowing farmers to select the specific Monsanto trait or trait combinations best suited for their field conditions and management practices, including YieldGard VT Triple. For the High Plains region, five of the most exciting new 2008 DEKALB YieldMaker products include DKC63-42, DKC 64-24, DKC64-79, DKC65-44 and DKC69-40. Here is a brief description of these products: --DKC63-42: A 113-day-RM product. Features excellent emergence and early-season growth that fits early planting and reduced-tillage situations. Very good disease package, including gray leaf spot tolerance. Very good roots and stalks. Features YieldGard VT Triple technology. --DKC64-24: This 114-day-RM product provides very good stalks and roots, allowing for a flexible harvesting schedule. It also features excellent drought tolerance, staygreen and harvest appearance, in addition to very good test weight. Features Roundup Ready Corn 2 and YieldGard VT Triple technology. --DKC64-79: Another Roundup Ready product featuring YieldGard VT Triple technology. This Processor Preferred product has a 114-day RM and offers excellent top-end yield potential for the irrigated producer, along with outstanding yield potential for the maturity. --DKC65-44: 115-day RM. This YieldGard VT Triple/Roundup Ready product also features very good yield performance in both high- and low-yielding environments. It features excellent grain quality with food grain potential, excellent root strength and very good stalk strength. --DKC69-40: Features base genetics of DKC69-43 with YieldGard VT Triple technology. This 119-day-RM product provides excellent emergence, root and stalk strength, in addition to excellent seedling growth and drought tolerance.
