Joplin regional cattle salesThe Joplin Regional Stockyards, Joplin, Mo., reported receipts of 6,050 head Sept. 24, compared to 6,341 head last week and 6,025 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, yearling feeder cattle sold fully steady. A larger supply of steer and heifer calves traded $1 to $4 lower. Buyers were wary and keenly listening for representation of calves and a description of their background and origin. The calf offering was very uneven as to quality and covered the full range, which is typical of early fall but not typical for the four state area. The supply included 45% steers and 46% heifers, with 28% over 600 pounds.
